These are some recordings Joe did a great job of putting together during several evening and weekend sessions in 2014. I was moving to Brighton and had a son suddenly arrive on the scene so work was sporadic.

In the summer of 2013 I was at a design team meeting for CZWG for Kidbrooke Phase 4 (which I did lots of the detailing for). Someone at the meeting said that he couldn’t get hold of a certain planning consultant “for love or money” which got me thinking. Wrote the song in just a couple of weeks.

Around the same time my wife and I visited the Erwin Blumenfeld exhibition at Somerset House, London, and I was captivated by his visions of beauty. It was spellbinding – he captured the essence of the ideal lady! I quickly noted some words down on my phone. I later realised I must have also been subconsciously influenced by Byron’s poem ‘She Walks in Beauty’

Captain of the Ship is maybe my most perfect song, I’m very proud that it appears to be a children’s song but its actually about being an adult.

At a gig, when I don’t know what to play, I play Making Hay! This song is a banker – appropriate for a cabaret show, children’s party, folk night or comedy night. Polite, but as rude as you imagine it to be, I’m always proud of it when I play it.
