Around 2004 Rupert got understandably tired of my dodgy singing and suggested we get a proper singer - enter the magnificent Kahli! We had various instrumental ideas Kahli put words to, however Kahli and Rupert fell out and Rupert left. The 'iron triangle of Dixon, Anderson and Handley was over! But we've always been lucky with guitarists and no sooner had Rupert departed but the great Joe Hoover emerged, recorded the album with us, and for good measure put together the albums crowning achievement 'Humans' Joe then returned to America before coming back to transform the Chandeliers, but that is another story...

These songs were recorded at Swarbrick Mansions in 2006 just after playing Standon Calling festival which remains one of the greatest gigs I have ever played. The Vicky and Suzanne came on stage and danced with us for the last song, me and Steve were doing Led Zepelin impressions, we smashed it.

Anyway, I put much time, effort and money into this project, my bass playing was frankly brilliant, I notice it is nowhere else on the internet, and the band had a great sound and energy which should not be forgotten, so herewith are the best recordings by The Dirge!

Listening to these again after several years, I am much more proud of these recordings than I thought I would be, maybe that's because these days I am more interested in lyrics and composition rather than bands with cool chemistry, but the Dirge were genuinely great! Also now its startling how all the songs seem to end in an orgasm section - I never noticed that at the time!

There are some other recordings like Order no Order, Radio, Red Shoes and Cold Pie but they're for completists only...
